Steve Chizmadia and the Accidental Gypsies – Bean Runner Cafe

His influences include The Beatles, Townes Van Zandt, Pete Seeger, and Steve Earle, among others. He’s a regular on the Hudson Valley scene with a steadily growing fan base nationwide.

Flamenco Gipsy Kings & Gypsy Jazz – Club Bonafide

Celebrate the vibrance of gypsy rhythms and flamenco guitar with acclaimed duo Yael & Gabriel. They’ll pay musical homage to Django Reinhardt and other hot club jazz artists during this elegant-but-lively concert at New York City’s Club Bonafide. Yael Dray-Barel is a French/Israeli singer/songwriter influenced by rock and gypsy jazz, and her songs often incorporate the five languages she speaks. Argentinian guitarist Gabriel Hermida infuses his compositions with the essence of classical tango, flamenco and contemporary jazz. Yael & Gabriel’s love for Latin guitar and jazz gypsy and otherwise make for a unique, exciting night of music.

Brazilian Jazz & Flamenco Feat. Barbara Martinez – Club Bonafide

Venezuela-born and New York City-raised singer-dancer Barbara Martinez is a flamenco artist with serious chops. The Philadelphia Inquirer called her voice “achingly beautiful” and The New York Times said she makes “something fresh of the Latino style.” Martinez has danced with the Metropolitan Opera in shows like Carmen and La Traviata, and recently appeared in the documentary Sobre Las Olas A Story of Flamenco in the U.S. Now, this passionate entertainer is coming to the stage at Club Bonafide in New York City.

15 Anniversary of Afro Peruvian Sextet – Minton’s Playhouse

One of the most influential figures on the current jazz scene in Per, Gabriel Alegria was born into an artistic family in Lima in 1970. Alegria’s grandfather Ciro was Peru’s most famous novelist and his father Alonso is Per’s most acclaimed playwright. Alegra’s principal project is called The Afro-Peruvian Sextet. He currently tours in support of the band’s latest release Ciudad de Los Reyes (City of Kings Saponegro February 2013) which includes twelve new pieces of music showcasing a breathtaking range of cultural sounds emanating from Black Coastal Per. The CD’s piece “Carrusel de Luces” was named NPR’s top Latin jazz composition of 2013. The CD includes collaborations with formidable native Afro-Peruvian artists Freddy “Huevito” Lobaton (Peruvian percussion Cajon, Quijada, cajita), Hugo Alczar (drums), Yuri Jurez (acoustic guitar) and Laura Andrea Legua (saxophones). The CD also features 5-time Grammy winner John Benitez on bass and Shirazette Tinnin on drums. Ciudad de los Reyes is a tribute to Lima, the capital city of Per.
