Midtown is the New York seen in a thousand films. On the West Side of Sixth Avenue, the neon billboards of Times Square and the theatres of Broadway dominate. On the East Side, the Radio City Music Hall and St Patrick’s Cathedral surround the Art Deco Rockefeller Center, home to broadcasters NBC and a 70th-floor observation deck. Along Fifth Avenue, shoppers duck in and out of grand department stores like Saks Fifth Avenue and Bergdorf Goodman browsing acres of clothes and jewelry. A few blocks south is the imposing Grand Central Terminal station and gleaming spire of the Empire State Building. After dark, Midtown calms down a bit, but at any time of day or night it still feels 100% New York. It’s not hard to understand why travelers from all over the world are looking for a hotels in midtown. Here’s a list of the cheapest (as of August 2017).

“I have stayed at the Pod 51 several times, and not once have I been disappointed. The price is great, the service is great and so are the rooms. They do have rooms for 3 people – you just have to call to ask. I was shocked at how big this room was! It was like two smaller rooms put together plus some space! Two tvs and two desks and our own bath. The rooms are clean, chic and comfy. I love the shower stalls and high pressure showers. The locations is great – not too touristy – not too residential. With the Morning Star Cafe a half a block one way and Ess-a-Bage the other way – how can you go wrong. Two metro stations are very conveniently located. If you exit the hotel and walk left for five blocks you have St. Patricks on your left, Rockafeller Center right in front of you! How is that for location? The roof top bar is amazing and so is the garden patio. The day we left, the cafe started serving breakfast. Did not have time to try it – so can[‘t offer more input than that. Also love the 12 noon check out time.” (Carol Heflin)

“This is such a quaint hotel! The building itself is very narrow with an old elevator that takes you up to your floor. Each floor has 2 shared bathrooms. The bathrooms were always available when we needed them and they were kept very clean! The room was also very clean and has a window AC unit that was very powerful. I was also pleasantly surprised to see a sink and mirror in the room; it came in handy for times you do not want to walk to the shared bathroom. The location of this hotel was fantastic! There are so many restaurants and places nearby! It is only a 7 minute walk to the Empire State Building! And if you are okay with longer walks, we walked to multiple other landmarks like the New York Public Library, Rockefeller Center, Times Square, and Central Park (20, 25, 30, and 40 minute walks in list order). Check in and check out was extremely quick and easy and the front desk staff was always so friendly. I highly recommend staying at this hotel!” (Michelle S.)

“The rooms and bathroom are very small but we could lay in bed and look directly into time square. The beds were wonderful. The staff is incredibly helpful and kind. Our room was kept extremely clean and we had fresh towels and sheets each day. The bus stop for the Gray Line tours was directly across the street which made sight seeing very convenient. The location of the hotel is perfect for the 1 block walk to the middle of time squares as well as lots of great places to eat. We expected to hear traffic and other noise but there was never anything that kept us from going to sleep or staying asleep. The price was right, the room was perfect, the location was excellent, and the staff was priceless. I would stay here again and would recommend it to anyone else too.” (Sheila L.)

“The Hotel St James is an excellent hotel for its proximity to many “hot spots” in NYC. It’s close to Times Square, Rockefeller Center, Bryant Park and the Theater District. The hotel is an older and smaller hotel but don’t let that stop you from booking. The rooms are comfortable and clean. The desk staff, especially Joey Sasson, is attentive and willing to help out with directions, suggestions for dining options and where is the best coffee in the city! When booking the room, Joey remembered me from a previous stay (5 years ago!). There was construction in front of the hotel, but we never heard any noise. A concierge desk is helpful in securing tickets or transportation and there is a computer available in the lobby area. Great hotel!” (KayBee540)

“My boyfriend and I stayed here for a week while visiting the city and really can’t recommend this hotel enough! We managed to secure it for a brilliant price and think it was worth every penny. The rooms are slightly on the small side, but given its fantastically central location we really weren’t spending a lot of time in the room. The bathrooms are shared, but are kept very clean so if not having an en suite doesn’t worry you it’s a great way to keep the price down. The staff were always very polite and helpful and the cleaning staff were great. The hotel itself is just a few minutes from times square, Broadway and 5th Ave shopping. Central Park is 15 mins on foot. We will definitely be staying here again :)” (beckytweed)
